Match Report:

Carey Faughs 0-17 Tir na nOg 1-12

A very changed Carey side dug deep and fought hard to take the spoils on a hot, summer night in Carey. Carey carved a 2 point lead going into the break but, in what was a close encounter, the lead changed hands on a few occasions before a Martin 'Cubby' McAuley free and a point by substitute Danny McAllister secured the win for the home side.

Carey came flying out of the blocks with Sean 'Chucky' McLoughlin going straight for goal in the first minute but Rudi Graham was equal to the shot and cleared. Tir na nƓg countered but Kevin 'Scamper' Sheerin's shot dropped to keeper McVeigh before the visitors got the scoring off to a start in the third minute thanks to Malachy Og Duffin. Carey replied when the defence cleared and found Patrick McBride who sent the ball over the bar from around the midfield area. Sean McLoughlin added point number two for the home side before Christopher Sheerin equalised.

Carey took the lead once more when James Black sent the ball over from a 30 metre free and a couple of minutes later Black had a great goal chance but his ball was driven straight to the keeper. Martin McAuley stretched the home lead to two before Scamper clawed one back for the visitors. Two Steven McGinn points were followed by a long range free by Cathal McAuley to leave 4 between the sides. Christopher Sheerin found the target for Tir na nOg but Carey replied with a James Black 65' after Rudi Graham was forced to clear some Carey pressure around the goalmouth. A Pearse Sheerin point and Kevin Sheerin free saw Tir na nOg end the half just two points behind.

Half time score: Carey 0-8 Tir na nOg 0-6

Ciaran McKeown got the second half scoring started after a minute before Carey replied instantly when a James Black ball found Sean McLoughlin for a point. A wide apiece from the sides was followed by 2 points from Kevin Sheerin, one from a free, to leave things all square. The visitors had 3 wides on the trot before James Black converted a 50 metre free to give Carey a slender lead once more.

A Christopher Sheerin shot was blocked down by Leon McVeigh but the danger wasn't cleared far enough as Kevin Sheerin found the loose ball and sent it over the bar to equalise again. A Martin McAuley shot found the Tir na nOg keeper and when play went down the field Tir na nOg rattled the net despite the home side calling for a foul on the corner back.

With a 3 point lead Tir na nOg weren't able to capitalise as a converted free from James Black and a Steven McGinn point from a very tight angle left just a single point between the sides. Each side had a free over the following minutes but were unable to find the target before Martin McAuley levelled the match with a free in the 27th minute. Scamper gave Tir na nOg the lead once more before a puck out went straight to the hand of Martin 'Cubby' who sent the ball straight over the bar to square things up once more. This sequence was repeated when a puck out found John Paul McLarnon who sent the ball straight over the bar for a Tir na nƓg lead. Two converted frees by Martin Cubby gave the home side a narrow one point lead before Sean McLoughlin made sure of the win when he won the ball in injury time and ran through a couple of tackles before passing the ball to Danny McAllister for the final point of the game.
