Match Report:

Carey Faughs 0-10 Sarsfields 0-17

Despite a promising start by Carey Sarsfields steadily settled into this game and, with a great start to the second half, ran out 7 point winners.

Colm McBride opened the scoring for the home side after just 25 seconds but Sarsfields soon had a chance to equalise when Leon McVeigh blocked down Niall McKenna's ball only for it to fall to an incoming player but sailed wide. Sean McLoughlin stretched the lead to two approaching 2 minutes. The visitors got off the mark in the 7th minute with a converted free by Daniel McKernan but Carey cancelled this out with a converted James Black free. John McBride added point number 4 for the home side but the visitors replied quickly. With Sarsfields beginning to press forward they had a wide before following this uo with striking the post although the rebound fell kindly to Daniel McKernan to send over the bar leaving just 1 between the sides.

A well worked ball through the Carey ranks found Sean McLoughlin to send over but once again the visitors replied quickly courtesy of a converted free from the midfield area. A Cathal McAuley free in Carey's own half was sent directly up the wing to Steven McGinn for Carey point number 6 and the home side were unlucky to have a Martin McAuley goal disallowed when it was deemed he handpassed into the back of the net. A converted long range free and a point by Niall McKenna left things all square around the 21st minute.

With end to end action Carey cleared some intense Sarsfields pressure whilst at the other end goalie Daniel McKernan saved a Martin 'Cubby' shot on goal. A Sarsfields free by the other Daniel McKernan on the stroke of half time gave the visitors the lead for the first time in the match as they went into the break one point to the good.

Half time score: Carey 0-6 Sarsfields 0-7

The visitors came flying out of the blocks in the second half and had 4 points on the board, 3 frees and then a point by McKenna, with no reply from the Carey lads. It was the 11th minute before Carey came alive with 2 James Black points. A couple of wides by both sides were interspersed with another 4 unanswered Sarsfield points. A James Black free was cancelled out by another point by McKenna. Patrick McBride was in terrific form for Carey as he tried to ignite the home side with some terrific runs up the wing and, having already set up James Black for a point previously, he set up Martin McAuley in the same fashion. It was not to be for the home side, however, and with another Sarsfields point and a couple of Carey wides Sarsfields ran out comprehensive 7 point winners.
