Match Report:

Carey Faughs 1-18 Cloughmills 2-12

A 10 point turnaround and solid second half display saw Carey come from 7 points down at half time to win by 3.

Cloughmills got proceedings off to a start with a converted long range free by Michael Devlin. From roughly the same distance Cathal McAuley converted a placed ball to level proceedings a minute later before a well worked ball starting from a sideline in the Carey back line found Martin 'Cubby' for point number 2.

An Aaron Smiley point was followed by a James Doherty point to give the visitors a slender 1 point lead before Fionntan McCarry squared things up quickly. Following a great ball across the square by James Black Martin McAuley missed a clear chance for a goal and young Fiachra McVeigh's effort was saved and cleared. A Cathal McAuley point was quickly cancelled out by Stephen Smith while both sides then also converted a free apiece before a James Black 65' gave the home side a slight 1 point advantage.

Points by Stephen Smith and Aaron Smiley swung the advantage once more to Cloughmills before Cathal McAuley levelled things again. In a game which was ebbing and flowing so much and with very little between the sides a one minute period saw the visitors grab the game by the scruff of the neck and add 7 points to the board when the Carey defence couldn't deal with Conor Reid making a run up the left wing and finding the net, Conor Laverty added a quick point, and then Steven McGinn got a touch to Se?n McKendry's ferocious shot but it powered on by for the second goal. Carey replied with a James Black free but Stephen Smith sealed off a good first half with a point before the break to leave the home side trailing by 7.

Half time score: Carey 0-8 Cloughmills 2-9

Within 15 seconds of the restart Carey had a wide but rectified this in less than a minute with a James Black free. A couple more Carey wides were followed by a converted Cloughmills free. A Patrick McBride point following a quick sideline to him by James Black was sandwiched between numerous Carey wides before Michael Devlin added a Cloughmills point. A ball across the square by Sean McLoughlin found 'Rocket' for a point but the wides were still mounting and closing the gap between the sides looked a big ask.

A James Black free and a Martin 'Cubby' point took Carey to within 4 of the visitors and despite a brief spell of pressure from Cloughmills at this point they were unable to get a score on the board as a free went wide and then a great run and strike on goal sailed wide too. Carey turned up the pressure and substitute Christopher Butler hit the post with his effort on goal. A James 'Rocket' Black converted free was followed by a run up the left wing by Sean 'Chucky' McLoughlin who's ball into the square was met at the far post by John McBride to drive into the back of the net. With things now all square the last 4 minutes were nail biting stuff as a Christopher Butler point was cancelled out by Liam Kearns but Carey finished strongly in front of the home crowd and 2 James Black frees and a Patrick McBride volley sealed off a great comeback.
