Match Report:

Lamh Dhearg 1-12 Carey 3-12

Games with Lamh Dhearg are always a heated, hard fought battle and this was no exception. There was little in the first half with the visitors going into the break with a slender 2 point advantage but the men in green kicked on in the second half to secure the points with a 6 point win.

A Lamh Dhearg free within the first minute opened the scoring for the home side and a chance to at least double the score from a 21 metre free a minute later went amiss as Michael Herron went low but Steven McGinn was equal to the task and saved his effort on goal. Lamh Dhearg's second point came in the 6th minute while Carey's first opportunity came in the 8th with a 60 metre free but James Black's effort sailed wide.

Carey settled and when Martin McAuley kept in a ball which was heading out over the end line Cathal McAuley was on hand to blast the ball into the back of the net. Carey kept pressing and great movement between 4 players starting from Carey's own half led to a James McCouaig point.

Lamh Dhearg replied emphatically with a Michael Herron goal but in just 30 seconds Carey's Fionntan McCarry sent a ball up the pitch to Cathal McAuley and he bagged his second goal of the evening.

A James Black point was quickly cancelled out with a Charlie McCloskey point before Martin 'Cubby' added a further point for the visitors. Carey had a couple of wides over the following minutes before Declan Lynch added a Lamh Dhearg point. Patrick McBride added another point for Carey and when Lamh Dhearg had another 21 metre free Michael Herron once again went low but Steven McGinn once again pulled off the save. Both defences held strong in the last 5 minutes of play amidst great pressure and there was just 2 points between them as they went into the break.

Half time score: Lamh Dhearg 1-5 Carey 2-4

A Lamh Dhearg long range free within the opening 5 seconds of the second half sailed wide but the home side opened the scoring within a minute. A Carey wide was followed by a Charlie McCloskey converted free to level the match.

Lamh Dhearg took the lead for the first time since the 12th minute courtesy of a Michael Herron point but Carey replied with a goal by Martin McAuley from a 21 metre free. A Chrissy Butler point stretched the Carey lead to 3 before Michael Herron claimed another point. Another Lamh Dhearg point left just a single point between the sides but John McBride went up through the gears and added 2 quick points to the board. Declan Lynch claimed one back for the home side before substitute Emmet Hunter added a point.

Emmet set up James Black for another point before Michael Herron went low for another 21 metre free but was once again denied and the ball went out for a 65' which Brendan McCombe converted. Carey ended strongly with a James Black point, a Cathal McAuley 65' and a James Black free to take the 2 points and end the evening at the top of the table in Division 2.
