Match Report:

In what turned out to be a high scoring and entertaining encounter the visitors were first on the scoreboard after 45 seconds following a well worked point starting in the back line and working its way up to Daniel McAllister to finish off. Glenariffe replied quickly with their own point on the board by no.12 less than a minute later. A minute later Oisins added their second point following a 65'. Carey levelled things at the 5 min mark with a point by young Conleth McVeigh and then added another by the veteran Colin Smyth to take a 1 point lead approaching the 8th min. Gelnariffe then went on the attack and no. 10 found the back of the net just a minute later and no. 14 quickly added on another point to lead by 3 with 10 mins played. Glenariffe followed this up with a couple of wides. Fiachra McVeigh added a point for Carey but Glenariffe replied with 3 quick points in succession to lead by 5 at the 14 min mark. Carey pointed a free then added a quick point by Ciaran McCaughan. Ciaran went on the attack again but his shot found the post. Glenariffe hit another couple of wides in this period and then Fiachra McVeigh volleyed the ball and Gerard McBride controlled it with his stick, brought it down and added Carey's 7th point to reduce the deficit to 2 approaching the 23rd min. Oisin's were awarded a penalty after 26 and a half mins which no.12 sent over the bar and within 30 seconds no.12 tagged on another point. Carey replied straight away and went down the other end of the pitch for Ciaran McCaughan to find the back of the net to trail by just 1. Approaching half time Glenariffe added another point and Carey had 2 wides leaving the home team with a 2 point lead going into the break.

Half time score: Glenariffe Oisins 1.9 Carey 1.7

Carey start the second half on the attack but the effort is cleared and Oisin's go straight up the other end of the pitch where Darren McVeigh is forced to make a save resulting in a 65' which no.7 duly points. Carey hit a wide and at the other end of the pitch Carey's goalie is forced to make 2 saves before Oisins get 3 quick points before the 5 min mark. Carey reply with a point by Ciaran McCaughan and then at the 6 and a half min mark Colin Smyth takes on a few players and young Patrick McBride runs in and finishes off the move by finding the back of the net. Approaching 8 mins Oisin's got their 14th point of the match but then it was all Carey on the attack for the next 5 mins with Colin Smyth working very hard for a point after 9 and a half mins and then adding another 2 mins later. Colin found the back of the net at the 13 min mark after Conleth McVeigh started the move with a nice lift and pass into Colly, the ball then nearly went out but Conleth McVeigh had made a run in and kept it in, pulled it across the goal line and Colly finished the move to give Carey a 2 point lead. Glenariffe hit a couple of wides in the following minutes of play and then scored a controversial wide which seemed to drop in for a point but was claimed to have went in through a hole in the net for a goal instead. Carey pointed a 65' approaching 21 mins to level things but Oisins replied with 2 points. Carey then pointed a free and then added a quick point from play yo level things once again. Carey took the lead again in the 25th min with a Conleth McVeigh point but Glenariffe replied quickly with a point of their own. In the 28th min Glenariffe dropped in a 65' and no.11 found the back of the net to lead by 3. Almost immediately, within 30 seconds, Glenariffe found the back of the net again with their second controversial goal of the match through this hole in the net. Half a minute later Oisins added a point to lead by 7 but Carey finished strongly and a good pass by Colly Smyth assisted Conleth McVeigh to find the back of the net on the stroke of half time. A couple of controversial goals marred this exciting, high scoring match. Carey should be proud of their effort especially the efforts of some of the young players coming through such as Conleth McVeigh and Patrick McBride and some of the old hands, Ciaran McCaughan and Colly Smyth bringing experience and leadership.
