Match Report:

Loughgiel opened the scoring with a point by McKee after just 30 seconds. Carey levelled things a minute and a half later with a converted free. Carey then followed this up with 2 wides on the trot and then Loughgiel sent a free wide. A Carey free from about 65m was taken by Daniel McAllister and was heading wide but Gerard McAuley kept it in and set up Tommy Devlin who sent the ball to the back of the net at the 5 and a half minute mark. Carey were still on the attack but Tommy's next effort sailed wide. After 7 minutes Patrick McBride sent an accurate pass straight to Leon McVeigh from the half back line and Leon made no mistake sending the ball between the posts to give Carey a 4 point lead. Loughgiel were quick to reply and sent a high ball into the square which Carey misread and when it dropped Loughgiel made no mistake in hitting the back of the net. A point in reply by Kevin Murphy eased a bit of pressure but approaching 9 and a half minutes Liam McBride came out for a dropping ball but completely missed it and the full forward collected the ball and hit the net for Loughgiel's second goal giving the home side a slender 1 point lead. After 10mins a Kevin Murphy effort dropped to the keeper but a minute later Daniel McAllister converted a 21m free to leave things all square. Approaching 13mins Tommy Devlin was running in on goals but his shot went wide and a minute later another ball by Tommy dropped to the keeper. A Loughgiel 65' by McKee went wide but he got a point from play just over a minute later to take the lead again. After 17 minutes the Loughgiel full forward eased around Gerard McBride and also beat the keeper again for Loughgiel's 3rd goal and in less than a minute goal number 4 came courtesy of a free from Brendan McGarry. A nicely worked Loughgiel point involving McGarry passing to Conor Campbell and then to no.22 who finished it off gave Loughgiel an 8 point lead at the 19 and a half minute mark. Patrick Butler replied almost instantly with a point and then Patrick set up Conleth McVeigh for another point a minute and a half later. Carey had a wide after 26 minutes but within 30secs Conleth McVeigh found the back of the net to reduce the deficit to 3. After 27mins a Loughgiel 65m free was sent in by McKee which Liam saved and sent out for a 65' which McKee then converted. Carey hit another wide before Loughgiel got the last score of the half courtesy of McKee again to leave 5 between the sides going into the break.

Half time score: Loughgiel 4.5 Carey 2.6

Loughgiel started on the attack but Brendan McGarry's first effort sailed wide. Within the first couple of minutes Carey's defence held strong and cleared the danger twice. Carey then won a 30m free which was converted to get the second half scoring started. Approaching 4 minutes more great defence by Carey resulted in them winning a free out and relieving the pressure. 30 seconds later a 65m free by Daniel McAllister was dropped in and Conleth McVeigh hit the back of the net for his second goal of the match to leave the visitors trailing by just 1. Loughgiel replied with McKee converting a 55m free but another free a minute later was caught and cleared by the Carey keeper McBride. A Carey free by Tommy Devlin was dropped in and Kevin Murphy was on hand to finish it off for Carey's 4th goal of the evening to lead by 1. Kevin got his second goal of the evening just a minute and a half later to stretch the lead to 4. Loughgiel couldn't find the target in the following minutes and had 3 wides in a row before McKee got a point in the 12th minute. A Carey substitution bringing Fiachra McVeigh on had nearly an instant impact as within a few minutes he bagged Carey's 6th goal of the match to take Carey's lead to 6 with nearly 13 and a half minutes played. Loughgiel hit another wide a minute later but then McKee converted another free. With 18mins played Carey's Tommy Devlin converted a free but Loughgiel replied with a point from McGarry. McGarry sent a free wide approaching 22mins but he made no mistake from a long range free 2mins later sending it over the bar. With Loughgiel on the attack the Carey keeper had to make 2 important saves on the trot when he blocked no.26's shot and then within 30secs saved McKee's effort sending it out for a 65' which wasn't converted. Play then went up the other end of the pitch but Carey had 2 wide efforts before Tommy settled things and converted a 25m free. Conleth McVeigh was going for his hat-trick in the last few minutes but was blocked and cleared. Loughgiel finished the match on the attack but a 21m free by Brendan McGarry was saved and the rebound was sent wide. Another free in injury time was converted by McGarry but it was too little too late and there was 4 between the sides at the final whistle. This was a brilliant come-back by the visitors and whatever was said at half time did the trick as the goalie and defence dug deep and redeemed themselves with some crucial saves and clearances under some immense pressure. The Carey side never gave up and were rewarded with a great win.

Full time score: Loughgiel 4.11 Carey 6.9
