Match report:

Within a minute and a half Chrissy Butler had an attempt on goal saved. The keeper was called into action again within 30 seconds as a Patrick Butler attempt was easily collected and cleared. Carey's first point came after 3 and a quarter minutes when a pin point accurate ball from James McCouaig found Martin Hunter's hand and he sent it over. Carrickmore replied quickly when a minute later they won a close range free and easily converted. 30 seconds later the visitors won another free from about 45 metres but this effort sailed wide. Some Carey pressure resulted in a 20 metre free approaching 6 and a half minutes and James Black made no mistake in sending it over the bar. Carey had a wide after 8 minutes but a minute later Cathal McAuley sent the ball into the back of the net to give the home side a 4 point cushion. A Carrickmore free in their own half was sent down the wing to the corner forward who reduced the gap to three with a great point approaching 10 minutes. Carey had another wide after 10 and a half minutes but Carrickmore made no mistake a minute and a half later as their centre three quarter sent the ball between the posts to reduce the deficit to just 2. The visitors maintained this pressure and had another point on the board in less than a minute to leave 1 between the sides. Carey still struggled to find the target and registered another wide approaching 13 and a half minutes and again 30 seconds later. The Carrickmore keeper was forced to save another Chrissy Butler shot when Paddy Butler sent the ball across to him after 14 and a half minutes and with Carey still pressurising another ball was sent across the square but took a deflection and was cleared. Straight away Carey sent in another ball but it dropped short for the keeper to collect and clear and this was then repeated at the other end of the pitch as a Carrickmore shot also dropped short for keeper Steven McGinn to collect and clear. The Carrickmore corner forward left things all square approaching 16 minutes and Carey's response from the puck out sailed wide. The home side won a 20 metre free after 17 and a half minutes which James Black easily converted to take the lead once more. Steven McGinn collected another Carrickmore shot and cleared and with more Carrickmore pressure over the next minute or so the Carey defence held strong and sent the ball back up the field where Carey won a free around the midfield area. This free was sent in but no one was there to collect. Carey kept pressurising but had another effort sail wide before the pressure paid off and young Fiachra McVeigh set up Martin Hunter for a point at the 21 and a half minute mark. It was just not Chrissy Butler's half as he had yet another shot on goal saved by the Carrickmore keeper. A ball in by substitute Martin McAuley was blocked by a defender and Martin Hunter ran on, picked up the loose ball and sent it over the bar to increase Carey's lead to 3 with 26 and a half minutes on the board. Carey were unable to take advantage of sustained pressure and registered 2 more wides in the dying minutes of this half.

Half time score: Carey 1.5 Carrickmore 0.5

The visitors started the second half on the attack and Steven was called to collect a ball and clear within 30 seconds of the restart and then converted a free after 2 minutes. In less than a minute the visitors converted another free to leave just 1 between the sides again. Carey's trouble finding the target continued as another 2 wides were registered before the 5 minute mark. James Black made a great catch from the Carrickmore keepers puck out and sent the ball over the bar for Carey's first point of the second half after 5 and a half minutes. However, Carey had another wide 20 seconds later and another wide 30 seconds after that. A long range Carrickmore free resulted in another point after 7 minutes to leave 1 between the sides once again. Approaching 8 and a half minutes a great ball by John McBride found Paddy Butler but his effort went wide. Carey followed this up straight away with a point by James Black to stretch the home side lead to 2 with 9 minutes played. At the 11 minute mark Paddy Butler's shot was saved and Fiachra McVeigh missed the rebound, however, the ball was sent back to James Black who sent it over the bar. Carey's wide tally was racking up and they had another wide after 13 minutes and 45 seconds and again after 15 minutes. Increasing Carey pressure eventually resulted in a point by Cathal McAuley approaching 18 minutes James Black's effort was blocked and Chrissy Butler picked up the loose ball and passed to Cathal. Carey had 3 more wides before the 24 and a half minute mark and Carrickmore registered 2 wides of their own following this. James Black converted a free after 27 minutes to take their lead to 5. After a long build up of Carey pressure and numerous dropped balls and blocks the ball was passed to Michael McVeigh and sent over the bar just before the whistle for full time to give the home side a 6 point win.
